Abandon Ship Hits Steam Early Access This Month—FTL on the Seas
Abandon Ship Sets Sail on Steam Early Access on 21st February.
Abandon Ship is a thrilling blend of Sid Meier’s Pirates and FTL, and it’s been on my radar for quite some time. As you traverse the map, framed by a picturesque border reminiscent of classic naval oil paintings, you gradually unveil the fog of war on the canvas.
There are countless events and ports to discover. By completing a specific number of events, you can unlock new areas and access previously locked gates. The procedurally generated exploration maps within each region determine the layout, including the placement of islands, ports, events, and environmental modifiers. While the main story nudges you towards certain locations, you have the freedom to explore at will.
Each region has its own unique theme. Uncharted regions are more perilous due to their scarcity of ports. Some areas feature active volcanoes that can impact combat. If your ship is destroyed, the Captain finds himself marooned with dwindling health. However, if the Captain manages to reach a lifeboat, you’ll face the challenge of diminishing supplies and morale. But if you survive long enough, you’ll be rescued by another ship, and the adventure continues.
