Commandos 2: HD Remaster – A First Peek This Year
Tropico publisher Kalypso Media has unveiled the first footage of its freshly remastered edition of the WW2 real-time stealth-tactics classic, Commandos 2.
Last July, Kalypso obtained the rights to the beloved Commandos IP from developer Pyro Studios. They announced plans for new games in the series, as well as updates to the original titles. Now, the initial results of these efforts have been presented in the form of the straightforwardly named Commandos 2 HD Remastered.
For those not familiar with Commandos, it was an extremely challenging strategy series that made its debut in 1998. Players are assigned the task of guiding a small team of soldiers – each with unique skills and specializations, such as the green beret, sniper, and demolition expert – across a series of isometric maps to complete various open-ended sabotage and assassination missions.
However, despite the military theme, stealth is of utmost importance. Weapons should almost always be the absolute last option. If you’ve played the excellent Shadow Tactics by developer Mimimi Productions, which was heavily influenced by Commandos, you’ll have a decent understanding of what to anticipate here.
Alongside the graphical enhancements you’d expect, Commandos 2’s HD remaster pledges reworked controls, a modernized UI, and an enhanced tutorial.
There’s a brief glimpse of all these features in the reveal video above – which also offers a first look at Kalypso’s second upcoming HD remaster, this time for Pyro Studios’ Rome-themed real-time tactics game Praetorians, which initially came out in 2003.
Both HD remasters will be released in Q4 2019 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Additionally, Commandos 2 HD Remastered will be available on Switch, Mac, and Linux, as well as iPad and Android tablets.
