Microsoft Unveils Xbox Adaptive Controller!
The Xbox Adaptive Controller, which made its way onto the online realm last week through a leak, has now been formally announced by Microsoft.
In a collaborative effort with gaming charities, Microsoft’s latest addition to its gaming gear is intended to serve as a stylish and budget-friendly gaming solution for individuals with limited mobility.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer, referring to the project as something that has been in the works for “years”, has detailed how the initiative originated from the desire to create something that could meet the specific needs of individual gamers:
“Our aim was to make the device as customizable as it could be, enabling gamers to establish a setup that suits them in a manner that is straightforward to use, expandable, and reasonably priced,” he stated. “In addition to functioning with the common adaptive switches that gamers with limited mobility might already possess, it comes with two sizable buttons built in. These buttons can be reprogrammed to perform as any of the standard controller’s button inputs via the Xbox Accessories app.”
In the United States, the controller will set you back $99.99. A UK launch is on the cards, but as of yet, there is no specific date or pricing available.
The outstanding UK charity SpecialEffect, which assists individuals with disabilities in indulging in video games, was one of the charities involved in the design of the controller.
“This has been a landmark collaboration for us,” SpecialEffect founder Dr Mick Donegan remarked. “Our expertise in aiding people with complex physical disabilities to access video games has allowed us to not only offer highly relevant advice regarding features and design, but also provide direct feedback from a user-centered perspective. Microsoft has a product here that holds the potential to assist numerous people worldwide in experiencing the enchantment of video games.”
