Overwatch, with its profound and rich lore as well as its flourishing merchandising business, has embarked on a fresh fictional venture with “The Hero of Numbani”, a new young adult novel set to be released next year.

Discovered on Amazon and noticed by Polygon, Scholastic has disclosed that it will publish the Overwatch novel on May 5th, 2020. Centered on Efi Oladele, the youthful creator of Orisa, this “action-packed novel” also showcases “the fan-favorite characters Efi, Orisa, Doomfist, and Lúcio in an entirely new, original story directly from the minds of the Overwatch game team and the highly acclaimed author Nicky Drayden”.

“In the technologically advanced African city of Numbani, in the not-too-distant future, humans coexist in harmony with humanoid robots called omnics,” the book’s description informs us. “However, when a terrorist attempts to shatter that unity, a hero named Efi Oladele emerges!

“Efi has been constructing robots since her childhood – machines to enhance her community and improve people’s lives. But after witnessing Doomfist’s devastating attack on the city’s OR15 security bots, Efi feels the urge to create something more significant: a genuine guardian of Numbani.”

Intriguingly, the e-novel is distinctly labeled as “Book #1” on Amazon.com, suggesting that further installments are likely to follow. Regrettably, for now, there is no indication of it on Amazon.co.uk, though.

This year, Overwatch has witnessed some of the most significant changes since its release, including the introduction of role queue and the new tank hero, Sigma, and a recent 8 GB download for the Public Test Region (PTR) that made alterations to 13 heroes in a patch dubbed a “remaster”.
