Phantasy Star Online 2: Finally on PS4 in the West!
Surprise, dear Sony fans! Phantasy Star Online 2 is making its way to PS4 in the Western region at long last…a whole decade after its initial release in Japan on PC.
On 31st August, the ARPG will make its debut on PS4. It arrived on PS4 in Japan six years ago, and it came to the West on Xbox and PC over a year ago.
Just like the versions on other consoles, it will be cross-platform compatible and available for free-to-play. It will also carry the “New Genesis” subtitle, featuring fully localized text and character voices in English (thanks to Polygon).
Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis – touted as the “next-generation” of Phantasy Star Online 2, propelling the action a thousand years forward after the Oracle’s battle in PSO2 – was released in the West last summer, but only on Xbox and PC.
As Matt elaborated at that time, along with the base game, it encompasses a new graphics engine, enhanced character models, a new multi-weapon system, and, most conspicuously, a “wide-open battlefield” with varying time and weather, which can be traversed using new abilities like the Photon Dash and Photon Glide.
Previously, Sega clarified that character creation and avatars would be compatible between Phantasy Star Online 2 and New Genesis. The weapons, units, and mags from the former can be utilized in New Genesis, while other data such as emotes, Star Gems, and Arks Cash can be shared between the two games. However, levels, EXP, skills, photon arts, techniques, and currency that impact the game economy are not transferable.
