Planet Coaster: Exciting Updates & Expansions
Frontier Developments’ highly praised theme park simulation game, Planet Coaster, is set to make its way to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 next summer. This exciting news brings the immersive theme park experience to a wider audience.
Planet Coaster, which initially made its debut on PC back in 2016, showcases Frontier’s attempt to modernize the classic theme park simulation formula that was previously seen in beloved titles like Bullfrog’s Theme Park and even the developer’s own Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. However, it must be admitted that the final outcome of these ambitions falls somewhat short in the management aspect.
Nonetheless, there is no denying the strength of Planet Coaster as a building tool. It boasts a dazzling assortment of roller coasters, rides, and scenery items. When combined with Frontier’s potent construction features, it has the ability to create truly breathtaking parks. The possibilities are endless, allowing players to unleash their creativity and construct parks that are both visually stunning and filled with excitement.
“As a management simulation, Planet Coaster may not be overly impressive, but as a creative tool, it is a revelation. It offers a powerful, incredibly engaging (and surprisingly easy) means of getting lost in the world of park building for hours on end,” I stated in my Recommended review back in 2016. “It might not be the ultimate theme park simulation for accountants and middle managers, but for the dreamers, the tinkerers, and the budding imagineers, there truly is nothing else quite like it.”
As of now, Frontier has not disclosed many details about the console edition of Planet Coaster, apart from the summer 2020 release date. However, the company does mention that PS4 and Xbox One owners will reap the benefits of the game’s “ongoing development since its original launch”.
This implies that the new version will incorporate at least some of the free features that have been added to the game after its initial release. Whether the DLC will be included or sold separately remains to be determined. Hopefully, Frontier will unveil more details in the near future.
