Resident Evil Revelations 2: Insights & Walkthroughs
It has been disclosed that Capcom’s episodic spin-off, Resident Evil Revelations 2, incorporates microtransactions.
Users on the video game forum NeoGAF got a whiff of the microtransactions following a series of preview events organized by the publisher Capcom.
Here’s how they operate: The microtransactions are for an item named Life Crystals, which, as Capcom informed Eurogamer, are exclusively for Raid Mode.
Raid Mode in Resident Evil is an action-oriented, points-based side mode where you choose from a bunch of renowned characters from the series and slay enemies in diverse missions.
Capcom clarified that Life Crystals enable players to continue if they die during a Raid mission instead of starting that mission anew. Essentially, Revelations 2 allows players to pay to proceed, as if Raid Mode were a traditional arcade game.
Nevertheless, Capcom emphasized that players can earn Life Crystals for free through Daily Missions.
“Players can relish all that Raid mode has to offer without making any purchase of Life Crystals,” a Capcom representative stated.
“They are by no means an essential item that players must invest in to complete the mode.”
Eurogamer video producer Aoife Wilson has played the initial six missions of Resident Evil Revelations 2’s Raid mode and informed me that she only died once, precisely at the end of the sixth mission. Obviously, the mode becomes more challenging as it progresses.
Here are Aoife’s thoughts:
“I envision that for the players who are eager to invest in Raid mode, this pay-to-continue addition somewhat eliminates the fear, and consequently the enjoyment, of playing – it would for me.
“If anyone who truly desires can simply throw money at it and persistently tackle the missions while gradually reaping the rewards, what motivation is there for someone to attempt and conquer it in the old-fashioned, no-continues manner? Personally, I’ll be pondering twice before dedicating a significant amount of time to it now.”
