Sniper Elite: Marching into VR World
Rebellion has excitedly declared that it is bringing its highly acclaimed Sniper Elite series to PSVR, Oculus Rift, Vive, and SteamVR in collaboration with the developer Just Add Water.
Sniper Elite VR, as this thrilling endeavour is to be called, is set in World War 2 Italy, preceding the events of Sniper Elite 4. It showcases an entirely fresh story crafted by author Tony Schumacher, who is responsible for the John Rossett novels. In this game, players will assume the roles of members of the Italian resistance, striving to eliminate the Nazi U-boat threat from Sicily.
This new version of Sniper Elite brings the series’ familiar ballistics and long-range gunplay fully into the first-person perspective. Moreover, the iconic slow-mo X-Ray Kill Cam has been reworked to be more fitting for the VR experience.
Missions will unfold across a series of entirely new maps, encompassing picturesque villages and military airstrips. Rebellion pledges the ability to “utilize free movement, employ stealth and tactics that suit your individual play style, and make use of an array of genuine World War 2 weaponry to take down your targets”. On PSVR, DualShock, Aim, and Move controllers are all supported.
Pretty much all that can be said for now is that there is a bit of in-game footage in the announcement trailer above. Regarding release dates, Rebellion simply states that it is “coming soon”.
