SOMA Studio’s ARG & More Game News 注:此标题涵盖了原标题中的部分关键信息,同时尽量做到生动简洁。
There currently exists a highly eerie and pulsating entity on Frictional Games’ website. Judging from the page name, it’s reasonably safe to assume that this pertains to a fresh game. But what exactly is that thing? Could it be an eyeball or frogspawn? Who can tell?
The studio, renowned for its absolutely petrifying horror games like Amnesia: The Dark Descent and SOMA, seemingly initiated the ARG at the conclusion of December. And the fans are now in the thick of unravelling this mystery.
For those not well-acquainted, ARG stands for alternate reality game. Typically, it takes the form of a treasure hunt across the internet, hopping between clues to solve a puzzle. If you prefer a fancier term, it’s transmedia storytelling. One well-known example is the I Love Bees ARG used to promote Halo 2.
The primary discussion appears to be unfolding on the Frictional Games Discord. Within that, someone has created a Google doc to list all potential ideas. According to Foxnull on ResetEra, the main findings thus far are two YouTube videos. The first one was discovered by hovering over an eyeball hieroglyph on the website. Fans have hitherto spotted some strange symbols on a rock, with theories ranging from mitosis to alien symbols. Meanwhile, the video’s description indicates that the video is from Shetpe in Kazakhstan, suggesting that the game might take place during the era of the KSSR (1936 – 91). Could this be a potential location?
Meanwhile, the second YouTube video was found through the website’s code. It leads to a black-screen video accompanied by some disturbing screams. ARG participants are currently concentrating on the “triple crown” hint in the description. Some believe it could be linked to the Egyptian Triple Atef or “Hemhem” crown. That would neatly connect with the Egyptian-style eye on the website, but it’s still anybody’s guess.
This isn’t the initial occasion that Frictional Games has employed an ARG to hint at a new game. One was utilized to market SOMA, the reward for which was a 12-minute gameplay trailer. This one is somewhat distinct, as we haven’t yet ascertained the title of the new game. This could make the reward even more delightful. Or perhaps more terrifying.
