Warcraft 3 Reforged: Issues & Updates
Warcraft 3 Reforged presently holds the ignominious title of having the lowest user-score among all games on Metacritic.
Now, after fans have had a few days with the remaster of the classic 2002 RTS, over 17,000 players have rushed to the aggregate site to voice their protests regarding a multitude of issues, ranging from absent features and unfulfilled promises to connectivity woes.
With a staggering ratio of almost 30 times more negative reviews than positive ones, the average user score plummets to a mere 0.5. Indeed, that’s out of a potential 10.
“Don’t buy Don’t buy Don’t buy Don’t buy Don’t buy Don’t buy Don’t buy Don’t buy,” exclaimed one disgruntled user, while another penned: “An overpriced HD reskin that ruins the game and fails to deliver on their initial pledges”.
“On the surface, Warcraft 3 Reforged encompasses a superb RTS, perhaps the greatest of all time,” Wesley stated when he examined Warcraft 3 Reforged for Eurogamer. “In terms of gameplay, there’s an abundance to cherish here: the evocative races, the diversity of units, and the substantial amount of campaign time (all the campaigns from Warcraft 3 and the expansion The Frozen Throne are included).
“Playing it in 2020, you come to realize just how influential it truly was. Its closely knit, hero-centered RTS gameplay – in contrast to the vast sci-fi armies of Blizzard’s own StarCraft – paved the way not only for World of Warcraft but also for the MOBA genre. Without Warcraft 3 and its incredibly talented community of modders, there would be no Dota 2 or League of Legends, no auto chess, and perhaps not even Hearthstone.
“However, Warcraft 3 Reforged came with expectations beyond a mere trip down memory lane. Buoyed by Blizzard’s pre-release marketing, we had anticipated more novel, elaborate cutscenes, more revamped campaign missions, and a visual enhancement that would leave us astounded. As it stands, Reforged feels more like a port than a remaster.”
